Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, typically known simply as Paul von Hindenburg, was a German general and statesman who led the Imperial German Army during World War I in famous battles such as Tannenberg and later became President of Germany from 1925 until his death in 1934. As Reichs President he was personally opposed to Adolf Hitler but supported some of his actions causing turmoil and allowing Hitler to tighten his grip on power. Upon his death Adolf Hitler declared himself as Reichs Chancellor and President giving him supreme poer over the German State.
