WW1 AUSTRALIAN DEATH PENNY (PLAQUE) KIA GALLIPOLI 15 BATTALION

This plaque was awarded to the family of Private William George Lampan who joined the Australian Army 15 Battalion on the 21 Mar 1915 and was killed in action on the 08 August 1915 on Gallipoli. The 08 August 1915 is a significant date as the famous attack on Lone Pine was conducted by Australian forces. Whilst you may draw the conclusion that this is where Pte Lampan was killed (Lone Pine), there is no historical evidence that the 15 Battalion took part in the attack. 15 Battalion history shows that  on the 06 August 1915 the 15 Battalion attacked the Abdel Rahmen Bair Heights also known as Hill 971 and then later in support of the 14 Battalion attack on Hill 60. One can only conclude that it was at one of these two places where Pte Lampan was killed in action.

The plaque is in good condition as shown in the images.
