EARLY JAPANESE FAMILY SWORD IN MILITARY MOUNTS
This sword is an early Japanese family sword that has been mounted for military service. The Tang has been signed, the blade has a straight Harmon and is in good condition with a couple of minor nicks to the edge, condition is as shown in the images. The Tsuba, Kubuto Gane and Menuki are the original family fittings. The Fuchi has been covered in leather as has the scabbard for military service. My go to guy to read tangs is not around so I am unable to date this sword but I would estimate late 1700,s (dont quote me on that).
Many Japanese officers that served in the Japanese military service used their family swords and modified them for military service so they could take them into battle, this sword is a good example of that practice.
This sword is worthy of further research it could be a hidden gem. Priced to sell.
