EARLY JAPANESE KATANA. KOTO PERIOD-UNSIGNED
KOTO period KATANA , dated 1400 -1600 with an unsigned blade, with a Burl Grain constructed blade, early fittings and a wooden scabbard. Thhis is a nice genuine Katane that once belonged to a rural Samurai hence the Iron Tsuba with a Turnip motif and decorated with Leaves and Seeds on the scabbard and fittings, there is also a Horse Menuki on the hilt. The blade has been buffed in one area to remove battle damage. single hole to Tang. The Hamon on the blade is a mix of Box (Hako-Midare) and ZigZag (Gunome).
This Katana has been professionally appraised and comes from a small collection just purchased here in WA. As staed this Katana once belonged to a rural Samurai who has used it in battle evidenced by the buffed area on the blade. It is over 400 years old and presents excellently. This Katana represents good value.
