US CIVIL WAR 1860 FIELD OFFICERS SWORD PASSED DOWN AND USED IN WW1
This sword is an 1860 US field officers sword that was used in the American Civil War That was later passed down through the family to a Sergeant Major John Detjens Jr in 1918 at the end of WW1 more than likely on his promotion, the dedication is engraved on the scabbard
The sword is the standard pattern 1860 model Field Officers sword with an engraved blade with the retailers name of Jacob Reeds and sons etched into the blade Jacobs Reeds and sons were a military outfitters shop in Philadelphia PA. and were in business from 1824 to 1983. Typical clamshell cross guard with the US Eagle and shield emblem with one star in the shield. Very ornate fittings in brass. Wire wrap and handle are slightly loose in keeping with the age of this item as shown in the images. Steel scabbard with brass fittings. Blade has acid etched engravings with some spotting commensurate with its age.
