US CIVIL WAR ERA BRITISH WORN BINOCULARS
6" long when extended, very small objective lenses, approximately 3/4" diameter, grips black leather covered brass, high quality and in fine condition, no manufacturer name and no markings, in a brown leather case missing shoulder straps. These binoculars came with a photocopy of a picture of Arthur J. I. Fremantle, a Lieutenant Colonel in the HM Coldstream Guards assigned as an observer during the US Civil War. In the photo he wears the same kind of case presumably with the same binoculars. These binoculars may have been his or someone else's in the Civil War.
Some stitching loose on the case.
