WW1 1908 BRITISH/AUSTRALIAN CAVALRY TROOPERS SWORD
History
The pattern 08 Cavalry Sword was first issued to all British troops and was then expanded to be issued to all Commonwealth troops with Australian Light Horse troops receiving it in 1918 when in Egypt in time for the Egyptian uprising. Up until its issue the Australian Light Horse units used the Pattern 07 bayonet to conduct its charges in actions such as the famous charge at Beersheba. All Australian issued Pattern 08 Cavalry Swords were made in England and were used British stocks with many of them having British unit stamps and marks. The Pattern 08 Cavalry Sword is still used as a parade sword.
This sword has bright fittings. Couple of dents to the scabbard as shown in the images, the blade has a small amount of corrosion to the tip which has been stabilized and does not detract from its appearance. Issue stamped for the 12th month of 1915 with the maker mark for Enfield. This is a good example of the P08 Cavalry Troopers Sword which are becoming increasingly harder to find.
