WW1 1912 PATTERN BRITISH/AUSTRALIAN LIGHT HORSE CAVALRY OFFICERS SWORD

    History

In 1912 following the development and introduction of the new 1908 pattern cavalry troopers sword, a new sword was designed and issued for cavalry officers. Essentially this sword followed the same form as the troopers sword but with the necessary embellishments and decoration to make it suitable for officers. This sword was also issued to Australian Light Horse officers and is still used by Light Horse officers for parade duties.

    Item Description.

This example is a WW1 issue, the blade is acid etched with the Kings Crown and the George 5th Cypher. The blade is in very good condition for its age. It is maker marked to Hawkes and Co of Saville Row West London. The ray skin handle shows a minor repair that is hardly noticeable as shown in the images. Nickel plated fittings are in good condition however could do with a good polish.

This is the first pattern 1912 Cavalry Officers Sword that I have had in over eight years, they rarely come onto the market as Australian Light Horse Officers snap them up.
