    WW1 AUSTRALIAN/BRITISH "TOMMY HELMET"

    BACKGROUND

During WW1 all Australian troops on the Western Front wore British made "Tommy" helmets. US troops on the Western Front also wore US made "Tommy" helmets. The difference between US made and British made is that the chinstrap bale is riveted on the US helmet and affixed with a split pin on the British made helmets. I have noticed that the British "Tommy helmets are getting rarer and that some dealers are buying US made "Tommy helmets and selling them of as British made.

    ITEM DESCRIPTION

This helmet is a shed find and is a British/Australian issued helmet complete with the correct split pin rivets on the chinstrap bale. As expected the liner which is present is  in poor condition. The chinstrap is also present but is very dry. The rubber donut ring is also present. This helmet has seen combat.
