WW1 FRENCH CUT DOWN FIGHTING KNIFE
During WW1 the German Army was advanced in its issue of trench/fighting knives for its troops. The allied Armies not so much so and there was a need for allied soldiers to have a trench/fighting knife due to the nature of trench warfare. Because the US Army joined WW1 later it had to support its troops in trench warfare and already had issued such weapons. There was a great deal of improvisation on behalf of The French and Commonwealth troops by cutting down their long bayonets in the field and converting them to fighting weapons suitable for trench warfare.
This fighting knife is French in origin and has been made from a Lebel bayonet and is a perfect stabbing weapon. The blade unscrews.
