During WW1 the demand for bayonets far exceeded its supply this caused the German Army to mass produce what is known as Erzatz or emergency bayonets. Nearly all were made from steel with various designs for different rifles. Erzatz bayonets were also supplied to Turkey who also has having problems supplying its troops with bayonets. This example is all steel with a nine groove handle, Erzatz bayonets are becoming collectable due to affordability and variety of types available.
