WW1 IMPERIAL GERMANY BAVARIAN PILOTS AWARD BY POELLATH IN SILVER NAMED
This award was issued by the German state of Bavaria to its Pilots during the First World War, as opposed to the Imperial German Pilots award which displays the Imperial crown this award displays the Bavarian Crown. This example is maker marked by the renowned maker POELLATH SCHROBENHAUSEN and is marked SILVER. The badge has a plain reverse which has been period engraved with the following:
Lt Max Muller
Now here is the twist, My research has found that LT Max Muller was a WW1 German (Bavarian) Pilot Ace scoring 36 victories and was the highest scoring Bavarian Pilot. If the engraving to this badge is correct this is a remarkable find. The badge is 100% correct and the engraving certainly looks to be period. I have no provenance to the badge purchasing it from a collector in the Eastern states who also cannot provide any clear provenance to the badge. I always err on the side of caution and I am offering this badge for the price of an original Bavarian Pilots badge, I sold one earlier this year for the reasonable price of $2500.
