WW2 JAPANESE CUT DOWN FIGHTING KNIFE

During WW2 the bayonet issued to Japanese soldiers were too long to be used as a fighting knife in the jungle. A number of Japanese soldiers cut down their type 30 bayonets and converted them into combat fighting knives which suited their tactics of closing with the enemy and attacking at night.

This combat fighting knife is a very good example of a cut down type 30 bayonet. the pommel press button has been welded and painted Black. The cross guard has been cut down and re-blued. The blade has been cut down to a length of 7 1/2 inches or 95 mm. The blade still retains the blood groove and arsenal markings and shows signs of field sharpening. A purpose made scabbard has been made from a cut down bayonet scabbard which includes a belt loop welded to the rear of the scabbard. The handle wood grips are in good condition.

This is a very good example of a cut down combat fighting knife.
