British box lock .43 bore percussion belt pistol with side folding 4.5cm bayonet. 6.5cm octagonal proofed barrel marked ‘SIMMONDS LONDON’, side belt clip, right side lever for bayonet retention and folding trigger. Good old blue finish overall, chequered round grips with small silver escutcheon and cap. Very nicely engraved. No licence required in W.A.
A quick look on the internet shows that Joseph Simmons was a London Gun maker from 1830 onwards. These Box Lock pistols with a spring loaded bayonet in this good condition are fetching around Euros 2000 in Europe (approx AU $3000) this example is good value at the asking price of $1800.
