RARE AUSTRALIAN PRE-FEDERATION NEW SOUTH WALES 1899 PATTERN CAVALRY SWORD
This 1899 pattern sword is maker marked to Wilkinson Sword Company and was ordered by the New South Wales Government and has a date stamp 10 8 (10 August). The scabbard is stamped near the throat with NSWG (New South Wales Government) and also stamped with the armoury number 1524. The hand guard is also stamped the same however the armoury number is mismatched with 1528 being stamped.
Whilst I have seen a few NSWG stamped Cavalry swords over many years they have allways been the 1882 pattern with the Maltese Cross pierced into the bowl of the hand guard. This is the first 1899 pattern which would have been in very limited numbers issued by the NSW government as Australia became a Federation in 1901.
I am lucky to have two of these swords both in similar condition with mis-matched numbers to the sword and scabbard.
