UNUSUAL WW2 GERMAN K98 BAYONET WITH NO MAKERS MARKS
Here is a bayonet for the edged weapon collectors and experts. This WW2 German K98 bayonet is in very good condition however it has no makers marks or year date. It has been made for the military as it has two Waffenampt stamps to the pommel along with a serial number. I have been on some of the forums and their is discussion on the type of bayonet but nobody can provide a conclusive assessment, the best I can do is this explanation from the War Relics forum and I quote
"What I have in my notes/information from untouched OEM specimens is this: The bright metal sometimes externally Spanish marked S. 84/98 type bayonets, with the straight wing Waffenamt underneath the grips (sometimes erased), there is no corresponding bright or blued flashguard. But also noting that the Spanish did rework some of them. With the German Police marked examples for some reason having two pommel Waffenamts. But no maker or serial number, with an examination of the various tang markings leading me to believe that Horster circa 1939 may have been the maker."
This bayonet slightly adds to the confusion as there is a serial number on the pommel and the blade and fittings has been blued as shown in the images.
Whatever the explanation is it is an interesting WW2 German K98 bayonet in very good condition, the rest I will leave to the collectors and experts.
